here is a cookery post...anyone fond of petai, or hate petai alot? it literally mean smelly bean, but me, my mum and my grandmum simply love it...there is of course a way to prepare it so it is not smelly nor bitter...
lets go step by step.
Ingredients:
big onions
prawns
petai
assam (to be make into water)
to be blended:
dry chilli
small onion
belacan
step 1: split it into 2, it can be open into halves, make sure there is no worms and remove the top whitish thingy.
worm petai:

petai in half:

step 2: do not wash it with water, not even wet it. Rub them hard with plentiful of salts, after rubbing sometime you will realise it is wet, due to the sap being release out. The bean will be softer too. wash cleanly with water after the salt rubbing, to ensure you do not have very salty petai dish.
bitter-less petai:

step 3: blend the items together and you will have a chili paste.
chili paste!

step 4: heat up the oil in a work, stir fry the big onions, till you get a onion fragrant.
step 5: add in the chili paste, fry till the fragrant comes out.
step 6: add in the petai slowly, do not add all at one shot. slowly stir fry it. add in the prawns too.
step 7: add in the assam water, and let it simmer for quite some time.

Simmering..

step 8: season it with salts and light sauce and also ve- jin.
step 9: once the petai is cook, serve hot and eat!
why the sudden urge of posting petai, cos it has been a few days since i had home cooked food, and i properly cooked food at home. As no one properly stock up the food in the fridge for 1/2 month. I jsut love home cooked foodies... =D
that is all for today!
